About Us
Diaspora Unfolding
Diaspora Unfolding is a space for honest reflections on life between Africa and Europe.
Through personal stories and practical insights, this blog explores what it really means to leave home, build a life in a new country, and navigate identity across cultures. It goes beyond the surface of relocation to examine the quieter, more complex realities, what it feels like to belong in more than one place, and at the same time, not fully in either.
From language struggles and cultural surprises to parenting, community life, and everyday encounters, the stories shared here reflect the layered experience of living in France as an African woman. There are moments of connection and beauty, but also of distance, misunderstanding, and adjustment, often happening side by side.
Written from the perspective of a Nubian, Kenyan woman living in the French countryside, Diaspora Unfolding holds space for the intersections of identity shaped by race, culture, gender, and migration. It reflects on how these layers influence daily life, relationships, and the way one is seen and sees oneself in a new environment.
This is also a space shaped by movement and nature. A love for the outdoors, especially hiking, runs through these pages, offering not just escape, but grounding, reflection, and a different way of connecting to place in a foreign land.
Diaspora Unfolding does not aim to romanticize migration. Instead, it shares its realities, the challenges, the lessons, the small victories, and the unexpected joys that emerge along the way. It recognizes that building a life elsewhere is not a single journey, but an ongoing process of negotiation, adaptation, and self-discovery.
Whether you are curious about life in France, preparing for your own migration journey, or already navigating life between cultures, you are welcome here.

Some hikes are about reaching the top. Others are about finding enough silence to hear yourself again. There are moments in life when you do not necessarily need answers. You simply need space. Space away from conversations, expectations, decisions and the constant noise of everyday life. Space to walk, breathe and allow your thoughts to arrive in their own time. For me, that space is increasingly found in the mountains. And living in Savoie, in the French Alps, means I am surrounded by an extraordinary number of them. This time, my feet took me into the Beaufortain massif in southeastern
